Chasing the Great Migration in Kenya – 22nd to 29th August'25

Every journey has its own charm, and our Kenya Migration Group Tour turned out to be one of those experiences that leave you richer with memories. We were a group of 16 Senior Citizens but enthusiastic at the core travelers, and I as their tour manager, Sudha Prasad, had the joy of leading this adventure into the wild heart of Africa.

Our story began with a comfortable Air India flight, filled with laughter and anticipation. Landing in Nairobi, we were greeted not by the African heat we had imagined, but by a brisk 8°C chill – a surprise twist none of us expected. Wrapped in jackets and shawls, we laughed it off, knowing this was just the beginning of many surprises to come.

From Nairobi, we drove to Lake Naivasha, where mornings and evenings carried a cold wind that swept across the lake. Our stay at Sopa Naivasha Lodge was nothing short of magical. Imagine sipping tea while spotting zebras, giraffes, and even hippos right in the hotel grounds! As night fell, the real adventure began – with hippos grazing outside the barricades. Monkeys leaping between trees, and a symphony of bird calls filling the air in the morning hours. It felt as though nature itself had opened its arms to welcome us:)

At Naivasha, I organized our traditional “Get to Know Each Other” session, which has become a signature part of every group tour of Travel Seasons. It is always a heartwarming experience, but this time it left me especially inspired. As stories unfolded, I was amazed to discover how many of our fellow travelers have been silently contributing to society in impactful ways.

One of our senior travelers has dedicated years to supporting blind children, helping them succeed and live with confidence. Another shared his passion as a nature enthusiast, creatively reusing old vehicles to design unique campsite experiences in the jungles of India. Among the group were also singers, avid book readers, urban gardeners, and individuals with diverse passions, each bringing their own wealth of experience. Moments like these remind me why I value traveling with seniors so deeply – every journey becomes not just about the destinations we visit, but about the stories, wisdom, and life lessons that my co-travelers generously share. With every tour, I find myself learning something new from my seniors, and this journey was no exception.

But nothing could quite prepare us for the thrill of the Masai Mara. Our home there was the Mara Maisha, a camp that perfectly blended wilderness with comfort – tents that had every modern luxury, yet still kept us close to the wild. Every game drive was a story in itself. We ticked off the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo – one by one, each sighting more thrilling than the last. The most heart-racing moment came when we watched a cheetah sprint and bring down its prey – a scene straight out of a nature documentary, but far more powerful when witnessed with our own eyes. We spent our evenings playing Tambola, Dancing and Drinking, it was always a fun to welcome eveyone in the evening and spend a joyful evening with our travellers.

The Great Migration had just passed through a week earlier, yet we were fortunate enough to cross briefly into Tanzania – without a visa! – to see the aftermath of this epic movement. Though we missed the dramatic river crossing, the sheer scale of what the wildebeest and zebras leave behind was awe-inspiring, a reminder of the cycle of life that plays out here year after year.

As our adventure drew to a close, we returned to Nairobi, where the group indulged in some last-minute shopping at the colorful Masai Market. The energy of the market was infectious, with vibrant stalls filled with beaded jewelry, wooden carvings, and handmade souvenirs.

Looking back, the week was a perfect blend of excitement, discovery, and togetherness. From chilly Nairobi mornings to starry nights in the Mara, from laughter on bumpy safaris to hushed awe at a cheetah’s chase, every moment stitched itself into a story we’ll carry forever. For me, as a tour manager, watching 16 Seniors hearts light up with wonder made it all the more rewarding.

Kenya gave us not just a trip, but an experience of life in its rawest, most beautiful form – and I couldn’t have asked for a better group to share it with.
